One case of cyber bullying that caught my attention was one in which a child told me that there was a bully in class who beat her if he did not agree to give the keys to their profile Facebook to publications in their name messing with other kids in class. Thus the problem for this child was twofold threats by the bully and the threats he received from the other people who thought the victim insulted them through social networks.

An adult knows how to handle this situation and seek help when needed, but minor without help from their parents is condemned the abuse.  Internet is a very useful tool because it allows targeted that shyness of face to face sometimes it limited but also dangerous because it increases the opposite situation, harassment occur without limits.

In fact, there have been mediated cases where harassment to minors over the Internet has led to tragedy sadly taking them even to suicide. The big problem of cyber bullying is the difficulty to detect it as many times embarrassment or fear the child decides to hide the adults in their environment. On the street one can visualize these situations but in Internet, harassment is silent except for one who suffers.

It is important to distinguish two aspects existing child online harassment when it comes to be alert:  One that occurs between equals for example, two children, also knew as cyber bullying. In both cases it is not new crimes but is crimes committed in a new environment: technological. That is why although the figure of cyber bullying as such will not be penalized in the criminal code, depending on how this occurs cyber bullying could be qualified, among others, threats, crimes against privacy as discovery and disclosure of secrets, coercion, or libel.

Another situation of cyber bullying can also occur against minors is caused by adults seeking to satisfy their sexual desires. Although these behaviors are less frequent than the first since Legalities recommend adopting the following guidelines to avoid as far as possible these situations. Without going to invade the privacy of your child, check what kind of pages you visit.

If you do not trust a certain website, browse it and seek views on that particular page on Google. Normally pages that are not trusted are comments in forums other parents alerted before you for the same reason. Check with your child the privacy of social networks you use. Make him share in a more restrictive setting while explaining the virtues of only share private content with who knows really, will take those good habits of use.

Let him know that you must add to your social networks only to people you meet in person. People who do not know in person may not be who they say they are and use that information for malicious purposes. And finally, although the Internet is full of virtues and can be well used an excellent tool; warn his son also of the dangers posed by the facility that exists to lie and the difficulty of determining who really is on the other side of the screen.
